About Bob

A New England native. An Air Force veteran. A Hume Lake veteran. And a watercolorist who never stopped dreaming in color.

Bob Plouffe grew up dreaming of being a Disney animator — though his teachers probably would have preferred he spend that time on his math homework. His love for art never left him, but life took him on a different path first.

He spent 25 years serving in the United States Air Force, traveling across the country and the world. When he transitioned out of the military, he found a new calling in ministry, spending the next 18 years at Hume Lake Christian Camps in the Sierra Nevada — a place that would come to deeply influence his work as an artist.

In 2020, Bob and his wife Debbie settled in Clovis, California, and he finally had the time — and the inspiration — to pick up the paintbrush in earnest. The mountains, the Central Valley, the western storefronts and lodges he'd grown to love all became subjects of his paintings.

Bob's style is impressionistic, built on dramatic, vibrant colors and an eye for the way light falls on architecture. He's especially drawn to urban landscapes and historical structures — the places that carry stories in every board and brick.

He and Debbie have been married for almost 40 years. They have two grown children and three granddaughters.

"Always willing to learn new and exciting ways to paint, Bob continues to grow in watercolor medium techniques — capturing God's creation and beauty."
